Cathay seems a decent deal for young guys.
Pay little or nothing for flying training, do six years. If you like it (you'll have six years to make that judgement), then stay. Simple.
If you don't like the rosters, company, jet lag, Hong Kong (various reasons), Aussies, find the job mind numbing, find the industrial issues worse then leave. Hey, you gave it a go. Leave, get a job in another industry.
If you do like flying but don't like Cathay for the reasons above then try for a carrier of your choice. 6 years of free flying with Cathay won't do you any harm in the eyes of BA / QF etc I'm sure.
Don't blame the young guys for playing the hand they were dealt. The only difference between a C scaler and a B scaler is timing / age. Same difference between a B scaler and an A scaler I'm sure.
