No, Mexico is not a close ally and is NOT in NATO. Culturally, Canada is a heck of a lot closer to us than Mexico. So while Mexico's border is juxtaposed to ours, "closeness" works in more ways than one. Canada fought shoulder to shoulder with us in Afghanistan, in a variety of peacekeeping ops in Bosnia, etcetera. Actions speak louder than mere proximity.

Speaking of Mexico, why don't they need a nuclear deterrent? If having the ability to melt most of another country is so crucial to defence, why are the non nuclear countries not being fried?
