I've always wondered why people bother with single cream. It has to be extra-thick double. Clotted is acceptable as an alternative.

BUT FOR (as we lawyers like to say) the strawberries had lumpy bits of half-dissolved gelatine
No worries. One of the skills of cooking is to disguise a disaster. And I should know! Warm the strawberries up, chuck the ice cream over everything and then pop some fresh sliced strawberries on top with a crumbling of meringue.

Or, get everyone pie-eyed first and they won't notice.
