Well without getting involved with all this "handbags at 10 paces" stuff, then all a traveller has to form any opinion on is that if one looks at the airport arrivals & departures currently, then at this time if it doesn't start with an "A" then there is no direct flight !
To be fair & objective then a review of the DTVA website does reflect that there are more than 200+ destinations that one can fly to, albeit virtually all through the KLM AMS hub. But then you could actually point out that it's only 100 short of the number mooted on a certain website at an airport "up the road".
This is of course taken somewhat light heartedly, specifically on limited choice and the fact that the option and facility for holiday travel, particularly the bucket & spade market has been actively discouraged.
It is this point more than any other, be it regarding the grand plan or what ever that makes me extremely cynical.
Picking arguments as to the remaining remnants of what was once a promising regional airport, is actually getting nowhere & without new information is just going over the same ground again & again
