All commercial FBW aircraft are first and foremost very nice flying maschines. They have to fulfill the same flight dynamic capabilities than any conventional aircraft. The FBW part concerns only the way the pilot input gets to the control surfaces. This as such is NOT automation.

Otto is the additional stuff commonly referred to as the 'autopilot'. And there is that famous dependency on the magenta line, regardless of manufacturer and type. All manufacturers and regulative authorities operate on the basic principle that the crew is consisting of PILOTS and not some system administrators punching buttons.

We may, however, have a problem that some Airlines have forgotten the latter part of the basics of aviation. Which those airlines are is not visible by their business model. Last time I checked Air France was not a low frill/cost carrier...
