DFW-SYD is what I'm assuming you are referring to .. that is NOT just "Crossing the Pacific" .. Whilst your numbers may be close to the truth for that sector (I think they are a little bit better in reality), there is no other aircraft that can deliver that product over that distance anyway so the derision is moot.

And in case anyone wants to start on 777 or 787 or whatever, other aircraft may be able to do the range, but not with the product. There are a large number of premium seats on the A380 which would not be provided on alternative machines. (bonus for economy people - they can stretch out)

After all, when the SP pioneered direct LAX-SYD it was only configured with 222 seats ...


Cane the company for being wrong by all means, but in this case, the A380 is superior to the 747 on the sector (which the 747 cannot do anyway) and particularly tying up with Emirates for a "round the world" A380 service.
