It doesn't do any good to be absent when your opponents are making statements on which you might rely at another time.
Despite the discomfort, you should be present at all times to be cognisant of exactly what was said instead of relying on second hand information.
From my experience, when others are making statements, expect the unexpected, otherwise those that should be held accountable, do not, and come out smelling like roses.
