I don't rely on polls; you're the one claiming to know who the majority and the minority are. Evidence please.

Freakonomics is a fun enough read, but doesn't actually say anything about statistics themselves, rather it looks at some examples where statistics "say" surprising things. "Thinking Statisticallly" by Uri Bram is a good primer and well written for the layman.
