This is KQ's press release clarifying the actual events:

Kenya Airways | Facebook

"Kenya Airways would like to issue this clarification following reports in sections of the media that one of our flights to Mombasa on June 13th 2012 was forced to return to bay at the JKIA after taxing to the runway because the crew had allegedly forgotten to fuel the aircraft. This was not the case; the following is the chronology of events and circumstances that prompted the recalling of the aircraft to bay:
• Kenya Airways Flight 610 to Mombasa on June 13th 2012 had to return to the parking bay after taxing to the runway occasioned by the discovery of two unaccompanied bags on the aircraft.
• The passenger, whose bags were in question, had checked in but failed to board the aircraft.
• Given the prevailing global security concerns, Kenya Airways does not fly unaccompanied baggage.
• While on the parking bay after offloading the two bags, as per the procedure, the captain called to top up fuel as some of it had been used during taxing to the runway and returning to the bay; this is the normal procedure on any turn back situation.
• The passengers were informed of the fuel top up and requested to unbuckle their seat belts as per the Airline safety requirements.
• The Flight departed Nairobi at 1530hrs and arrived in Mombasa at 1630hrs.
We wish to point out that Kenya Airways upholds the highest standards in all operations and our ground handling crew adhere to all procedures relating to the servicing and preparations of aircrafts before departure."
