Apart from wanting to arrive in UK early morning ( and vice versa with Nairobi ) the old jets needed to take off at the coolest time of the day , or near to it anyway , because of the altitude and high daytime temps , and the relatively low-powered engines of the day . Modern equipment means that this is mostly old hat now.
