Answer: The thrust reverser, and it's not a component of the engine but of the nacelle (or exhaust duct). I wonder if you have ever seen the demonstration of a Harrier at a Farnborough Air Show, and thought about how it "vectors" its exhaust thrust and controls the engine that produces the exhaust "momentum"?
