An autoland is required for Cat II and Cat III approaches but not for Cat I.
An autoland is NOT required for Cat II approaches.
I'm pretty sure autoland isn't required for Cat IIIa either. It is for Cat IIIb and Cat IIIc (if you can find one of those).
