British Rail / National Rail or whatever they are called this week would like to close the station. It would cost them too much money to close the thing down, so the cheaper option is to have 1 train stop a week.
A few years ago every train either stopped at the station, or you could give the driver a hand signal, and the train would stop & let you on.
I guess the latter stopped when too many people gave the drivers the wrong type of hand signal too often
