My uncle used to work on them as a "Body builder!
He died a few years ago because of the asbestos
they used to insulate the bodywork.
My second EVER flight was in the old Rapide that
operated at the then Ringway. About 1948 I think.
That's all there was operating there then I think!
My first flight was off Southport beach in an old
DH Moth that someone had managed to fit out with
a TINY 4 seat cabin. Thrill a second!
I was told that the chap used to keep it in the local
bus garage and taxy it from there to the beach at the
start of the day's business. Don't know how true that was?
My LAST duty flight from MAN was a 767 to Montego Bay.
Slightly less exciting. Returned to LGW.
What a difference the years make!
