Many people are still tempted by this illusion - in fact, it seems that the number of people who believe in this theory is on the rise in airline management, authorities, and public alike (as evidenced by this thread). Short-term "fixes" may provide better
PR, but they often stand in the way of long-term advances in actual flight safety.
