What kind of ferries are you asking about... ?
There are many types of ferries...

The ones I do generally are for B-747s (100-200-300-SP) -
I do various ferries for my airline, as a management pilot...
I am also on the availability list of various "crewing" office/agencies.
They might call me to ferry an aircraft from "A" to "B"...
Generally it is to or from "desert storage" airfields such as -
Mojave and Victorville (California), or Kingman and Marana (Arizona)...

Circumstances vary, i.e. airplane going to be converted to beer cans... last flight -
Or airplane stored after months or years in desert, is ferried to new operator -
Can also be a "maintenance ferry" - engine-out ferry, or gear-down ferry -
Or airplane seized by banks/leasing companies, for non-payment of lease -

As I was previously qualified B-707, B-727, DC-8, I have flown some of these long ago.
For this you need a current licence, validated for a flight on these types.
Then you hit the books, and spend hours in cockpit to figure where the switches are...
Boeing is notorious for "differences"... a 747-236 is completely different from a 747-287 -
A lot of paperwork required for ferries, sometimes test flight(s).
Do not expect year-round employment. I average maybe 2 or 3 such flights yearly...
