Most officers at LHR are now armed, in which case the story probably isn't an exaggeration.
It may seem unnessesary to some, and I don't agree that is always needed. But armed police are responsible for the security of thier guns as well as a prisoner, and even the most responsible and seeming upstanding members of the public can, and have in the past played up.
