A PILOT and his passenger have survived a light plane crash in Tasmania's west.
The Cessna 185 float plane crashed into the embankment of the Gordon River in a remote area of Tasmania, 58km southeast of Strahan, search and rescue authorities said.
The pilot suffered back injuries and was taken by helicopter to the Royal Hobart Hospital, Australian Search and Rescue spokeswoman Tracey Jiggins said.
The male passenger walked some distance before being picked up by a Tasmania Police launch boat.
An SOS was sent out when the Cessna plane failed to return from its journey near Strahan earlier today
