Both the cars mentioned are Nissans.
I had a Nissan Terrano and the dashboard failed as well. But this is nothing to do with passing radar stations, it is listed as a known fault on Nissan cars.
The LCD display flashes off/on, the needles go up and down etc. etc. And when you take it to the dealers they go "oh, another one" and swap the electronics out.
