Cadet entry is frozen until next year and there is around 200 cadets in the system already.
Ultimately any non-Malaysian pilot wishing to fly for a Malaysian airline will require the "blessing" of the DCA and Immigration (Labour) - this requires the employer to justify that a non-Malaysian is vitally required. DCA is putting their foot down because there are plenty of starry-eyed aspirants hoping for a RHS spot on the A320 - whether or not they can actually fly remains to be seen. Commanders may be a different story however and that remains to be seen also.
Put it this way - and I'll let you be the judge - one of the guys recently went to get a A320 rating abroad in the belief that it would provide longevity in the company when the 737's go... just found out that his 737 contract will be his first and last
