Sounds like if my BIOS co-operates then it shouldnt be too difficult. Just got to make a boot disc on cd then, must admit I'd never thought of using USB for booting though.
Keeping the old A:/ in the cupboard rather than sending to the tip seems like a good idea too.
If I hadnt just bought a new card reader then using the released flap for that would have appealed.
