After digging out the Valiant/Vixen photos I discovered some other early refuelling snaps which might be of interest.

The Vulcan picture is of a Mk1, probably working up for a trial to determine if it was feasable to maintain an airborne reaction force in the tense days of the early 60's. We tried it and it wasn't.

The Javelin was snapped on a routine sortie, Javelins were our bread and butter tasks at that time.

The Argosy was back to being a one off. It was a trial to see if it was possible to refuel an Argosy from the Valiant. We were as slow as we dare with some flap down, the Argosy was flat out and took a long time to catch up. He finally made contact on the tin drogue which was the standard in use at the time for the Valiant but it was all too difficult and never tried again as far as I know.
