When did 'parked' start requiring 'up' on the end of it? This seems to be a recent phenomenon, for decades I've heard people saying their car is parked, the aeroplane is parked, but now it's parked 'up'.
Is this the same trend that has lots of people adding 'back' after return, i.e. 'return back' (which is grating I must admit).

So parked means parked i.e. parked at the gate, parked in your driveway (car) parked at the shopping centre etc
Parked up means parked long term i.e. parked up at Alice Springs, to put a vehicle in a place where it can stay for some time
Parked = short term
Parked up = long term
