Makes me think about the B727 simulator I got to play in just before it got scrapped. Was used by and in Sterling airlines (long dead) former building at EKCH. The "computer" was vacuum tubes. The visuals only showed night-time conditions, and looked as if it was a moving plate with holes in it, with light shining through to simulate runway and taxiway lights. In it's final years it was used by Iranian pilots, who couldn't go to the US due sanctions. The thing worked remarkably well mechanically, it felt as you were manipulating "something big". The control wires had weights attached to them to simulate "heavy-ness".
