One of the main obstacles to any outcome other than closure, is that they’ve announced it. Critical staff in RFFS, ATC, engineering etc. now know that they have 3 months to find a new job and will be doing exactly that. The airport could hypothetically find that it is unable to continue operating even before October because there is no one left to run it. The announcement yesterday has holed the airport beneath the waterline, I’d be very surprised if there’s any coming back from it.
