OK, I'll buy that, for your balloon, not unlike the way the ground looks when you cross a ridge while in a crab for a crosswind (in a plane).
Just to clarify, neither the BBC report nor the official accident report mention anything about being pulled into turbines, The plane was 1400m
downwind from the nearest windmill.
