Compensation Query

Hi folks, please may I pick your brains?

Stockholm to Edinburgh last week was cancelled because of Storm Arwen, so we were put up in a hotel and rebooked the next day via Amsterdam.

The ARN-AMS sector was late departing (pa from the flight crew blamed deicing delay on the first sector of the day out of Latvia or maybe Lithuania) and as a consequence we missed the connection with the AMS-EDI sector on KLM. We were rebooked on a (much) later EDI flight and spent the day lounging around Schiphol. Landed about 8 hours late on the original rebooked ETA (and about 26 hours late on the original booking).

Other half is in an email war with the carrier to try and get delay compensation but they can’t seem to get that we’re NOT claiming for the original flight as that was ( …quoting from their leaflet…) “meteorological conditions incompatible with the operation of the flight concerned”

For the ARN-AMS flight the next day our thinking is that there were no “conditions incompatible” as the deicing was not required on the flight concerned, but the previous sector, and therefore we are eligible for compensation?

Thoughts/ideas would be welcome. I’m not really fussed as the whole thing was a bit of an adventure but the good lady is on a mission…

SAS and KLM were both great with info, rebooking, hotels etc, just the missed connection at AMS due to the 60 min departure delay out of ARN which then gave us an 8 hour delay in the arrival.

We managed to scrape in before Boris’s PCR rules, but did get a bit pissed off doing Passenger Locator Forms every time something changed…
