The virus is now endemic and we will have to get used to living with it, locking down won’t keep it out, it’s already in the community.

Australia has the big advantage that it kept the virus at bay until vaccines were available whereas the UK and USA were badly hit early on before there was any way of preventing it.

The need now is to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible while gradually opening up the country. The virus pandemic can be turned into the equivalent of a bad flu season with vaccinated people less likely to catch COVID, pass it on or get very sick if the holes in the Swiss cheese line up and they are infected.

People will continue to get the virus but will mostly be recovering from mild symptoms at home, rather than dying in the ICU.
