Under the laws of war, during an international conflict, anyone who works in a role supporting the sharpend is a legitimate target be they a member of the armed forces or a civilian - they have therefore agreed to put their lives risk and the job he or she does is a cog in the machinery that strikes at an enemy. As Spitfire5054 reminds us there is also the terrorist threat which in may ways is the more likely and being in a service environment the risk is higher.
