When the next upswing occurs after this downturn you won’t be given a 12-18 months heads up to start your training. Those who start their training 12-18 months prior to the upswing beginning will be best positioned to ride the crest of the next wave, but that means committing to a large sum of money at the same time no one is being employed.

My guess is not in 1 year, but 2 years from now demand will have picked up again and pilots will be required in numbers at the regional level. If you can commit to the training now and possibility support yourself through alternate employment for 6-12 months after the course if no airline work is available then it may be a good idea to start training now.
