I did this many years ago when I lived in Jersey. The (now) ex decided she had to have a Bernese mountain dog and we picked it up in Land's End. We just asked someone at the Aero Club if they wanted to to fly us over if we paid for the gas. Perfectly legal.
Ironically, I found this quite useful and it prompted me to get my license.
The pilot was Chris Wench, Jersey aviation legend.

As has been pointed out, there’s more to it - however I’ll agree that the majority of animals brought into the island are through the aero club. I wonder how often the immigration authorities are called up there to meet these flights? For a commercial charter flight, it’s every time...
