In my past I worked with a lot of ex military aircrew, I am ex military myself so I 'get it', not one of those would identify themselves as 'Wing Commander' or 'Group Captain' or whatever, they would identify themselves by name or as Captain or whatever.
Isn't the correct abbreviation 'Lt Col'?
I've known pilots on AEFs who are retired RAF senior officers up to Air Cdre and still only use the rank of Fg Off.
On the other hand, I was given the privilege of using the title 'Flt Lt RAFVRT (Retd) when I was kicked out and I know some retired VRT officers/poseurs who do this but
I don't.
