Air New Zealand were already in financial trouble so although I agree with the sentiment I don’t think they’re the greatest bell weather for extrapolating pilot job losses into other airlines.
Not before COVID-19 they weren't, they had an order in for GEN X 777's and were replacing 320's with NEO's and lots of new routes.
