I understand the issue about the A220 is that it does not fit the main stands 1-11, only the newer 21-24, and of course the ones being built. The Embraer, current and new, fits them all, as at present. As BA are far and away the majority operator, it seems it just won't work for a fleet replacement of the E190.
BA1 generally departs from 21 to 24
