Back to paying tribute to an outstanding RAF Officer.

I had the pleasure of seeing Sir David Evans when he was CinC at a TLT Meeting at Leuchars in 1978. He was present at the symposium on the final day. He spoke a lot of sense and made his other Air Ranking Officers sitting in the front row stand up and answer questions from the floor on many subjects. He was plain speaking and tactically very aware.

He was the one who questioned why all bombing practice was done on the coast at sea level and then when dropping on a hillside at 1200ft the scores were rubbish. QWIs were tasked to sort out bombing calcs and discuss with industry how to improve results.

He also questioned why we were still using cine film to record air-to-air weapons shots and bombing scores, the same as he had done on Venoms years before.

Blue Skies Sir
