Personally I don't think you would get many people trolling over the Dartford Crossing to Stansted from south of the Thames, maybe North Kent but not from East/West Sussex,Surrey and Hampshire. It has to be Gatwick and if pushed Heathrow.
I think you’d be surprised at just how many people from south of the Thames will and do make the journey to Stansted. Just like it works the opposite way around with Gatwick. People north of the Thames for years have had to make the journey round the M25 to Gatwick. It’s no big issue (traffic depending).
The bucket and spade market is price sensitive. Not forgetting that some of these destinations now, Stansted is the only option in the south.
