FCOM is a horrible read with its data units and incredibly light on detail. Most of us would like something a bit more user friendly.
The FCOM and FCTM have all the info a new-hire with zero big airliner time needs. No need to go more into detail prior or during a type-rating. That can be done at a later stage.
My advice is not to study in advance. You can already have a look at the FCOM and FCTM if you want, but follow your company's training syllabus. Use the provided CBT course and after completing the module of a particular system, study the relevant chapter in the FCOM. That way, reading the FCOM will be easier and it's going to make a lot more sense. The FCOM is a big chunk, but going through it step by step will make it easier. After the systems, study the procedures and limitations chapters and have a look at the performance chapter. And know where to find what.
