As I am reliably in formed, the B47 drag chute on approach was there so that the engines - old style turbo jets remember - could be kept spooled up to a useful RPM in case of G/A. Those old stovepipe engines had diabolical spool up times from idle.
I wonder whether the chute was dropped in the event of a G/A and if so, what about the subsequent approach?
