So if you visit a doctor / dentist you pay a small fee if you have a health insurance card. System is not really designed for use outside of Japan. Pension also is basically designed for domestic use, however their is some facility to withdraw contributions when expats leave the country. Not really sure about the details about how much can be withdrawn or tax implications.
RUMBEAR, thank you very much for the reply, You have just explained exactly what I was looking for regarding the medical benefit. As for the pension, let’s say you manage to get your contract renewed until you retire at 65 and decide to leave Japan by then, if it is designed for domestic use, I was just wondering what will happen to our contribution after all those years. My understanding about the pension is something we receive after the retirement. Not sure if that’s the case for this contract.
