I think the blue aspect of the livery was from when RYR bought the 737-200's from Britannia. Rather than apply a new livery, they maintained the lower blue.
Not correct as they acquired 737-200s from several sources, not just Britannia, and all were fully repainted soon after acquisition. I recall being told by a person in the company that the choice of dark blue was in part because it would not show dirt and grime as readily as a light colour.
