Last month, tour firm Thomas Cook went out of business, putting 9,000 jobs in the UK at risk. But Hays Travel has taken over its 500-plus travel shops and says it will continue to employ up to 2,500 of the people who work in them.
I am glad that Hays have taken some staff on but they must look to the future and plan for fewer shops. The top and bottom of the market may still continue to use shops but (my guess) 80%+ of the market will not. The Internet has been around in a mass market way for 20+ years and the folks who like to use shops declines with every season.
