This is a good point. On the other hand, we should give some credit to a buddy sharing a pint who can read emotional clues and toss out what might have been a flippant remark. Not so easy to do when the message comes in as plain text. Maybe lacking an obligatory wink emoticon.
This sort of thing would be way above my amateur psychiatrist's pay grade. Particularly where numerous lives might be at stake.
