The advantage is you spend 40 hours instead of 24 in the sim. Also, the sim and procedures are usually specific to the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, not a generic jet. When you go for a sim assessment as part of Ryanair or another 737-800 operator you'll be much more comfortable and familiar with the aircraft. Also, when you go to do your type rating, you'll have a distinct advantage as you'll have spent a few weeks studying the 737-800 aircraft already.
