Why would Stornaway (or any of those airports) need to be a base? Surely it could just be a couple of flights a week from London.
I think Stornaway was considered way back but that was when they had the much lower capacity -200s. 189 is maybe just too many seats to fill. They may fill an -800 to Inverness including from Germany, much as they manage with Kerry.
