The QR system is not out to get you, but it does operate strictly by the book. And not just for pilots but for all employees. For example, the company does not care if you perform a go-around, which is SOP. They will care, and ask you to explain, if they find that somewhere up along the approach path you did not follow SOP, which then led to the go-around. It couldn’t be simpler, just do what the book says.
If anyone ever turned up for duty and openly admits to me they have not had their 12 hours rest, they’ll be offloaded. You may think this is harsh, but if they are stupid enough to tell me, then it’s their own fault. Just imagine you have an incident during the flight and then this maverick tells the office he informed you he did not have the required rest. It’s simple here, do as you’re required and everything is ok. If you don’t like it, leave and go and work elsewhere.
