The 787 is a clean sheet design, I would expect it has sufficient redundancy. The issue is that this type of technology is being retrofitted without the required level of redundancy
specifically because doing so may have broken the exisiting type rating.
It is not the technology per se, that is the problem but it's inappropriate use. Boeing know how to do redundancy properly, they made a rational business choice not to so, for profit.
