The pilot seniority list hasn’t really grown or shrunk in the last several years (about 3200-3300). However, its composition has! There are far more young and inexperienced aircrew whom never would have been hired in decades past. This leaves a higher workload for those remaining with reasonable experience and competence. We are babysitting many of these “pilots” in ways unimaginable ten years ago. Just because some don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s not true. There are far more holes in the proverbial cheese now than there were in the past. Don’t let FDAP rates fool you. Those are stable / improved because experienced crew simply cannot perform in any way other than abundant caution knowing full well that backup usually isn’t there. It’s that simple.
