Many years ago I inherited a very nice alto sax from a distant uncle in law or similar who I loved to listen to when he played with a jazz quartet. After many lessons kindly provided by the ships resident tame RM bandsman it became obvious that rather than being the next Charlie Parker I was more akin to Parker off Thunderbirds. The Bandy described my effort at playing a scale as like listening to a tree full of peed off parrots. I was put in touch with an oppo of the Bandy who offered me a sum for the sax that had me thinking it was a wind up. Suffice to say it bought me a decent car and a nice holiday. The instrument was then [rightly so] played professionally for many years.
