As a silly semi-Yank I had to Google "van of death" because I wasn't entirely certain what you were on about.
As someone who left Britain nearly fifty years ago and has led a peripatetic existence, including a very pleasant stay in the Lone Star State , I also had to think twice about "van of death" but based on my knowledge of UK schoolboy humour, I quickly concluded it was what you and I call a "food truck" .

I'm reminded of an incident back in the 70s when waiting for a ferry to Skye. There was a very scruffy caravan on the ramp offering various delicacies, but no deep-fried Mars Bars as far as I remember. I chose a hamburger. Being deep in the wilds of Scotland, the caravan owner had obviously never seen the real thing - his hamburger patty was made from pork!
