One of my old bosses on 214. Very professional and a very competent tanker captain. I wasn't on his regular crew but flew with him on quite a few occasions.
Skingsley was involved in a tri-national venture, with the German and Italian air forces, resulting in the development of the superb Tornado.
He told us a tale of a planning meeting he attended where a very excitable Italian officer was holding things up by continually interrupting, waving his hands about and generally playing up to the stereotype. The German officer sitting next to Skingsley leant over and said quietly "You think this is bad? You should try fighting a war alongside them!"
RIP boss.
